My Visits to My Doctor

Hefflump What an Experience! Jagular

I was so scared the first time I heard all those noises outside Mommy's tummy and all that pushing!!! Almost as frightened as Pooh gets of the Hufflump and Jagular when he is in the 100-Akre Forest looking for honey!
But I am not frightened anymore. My doctor is very good to me and Mommy. My doctor's name is Dr. Melchione. He is a very nice doctor and takes lots of time answering questions with Mommy and Grandma. Grandma got to hear my heartbeat for the first time on July 1, 1999. Boy was she excited! I found out I would be born at Sutter Hospital in Sacramento and the doctor said I am already 7 1/2 pounds! He says I will grow about a 1/2 a pound per week and that I will not come for at least another week. That means I could weigh over 8 pounds when I am born! WOW! Can you believe how cramped I am right now? I am a little fearful of leaving my Mommy's tummy just yet so I will make them all wait for my arrival just a little bit longer. Besides, my Poppa wants me to be born on his birthday and that is not until July 15th! Oh, bother!!!

Well, today is July 18th, my Uncle Corey's 13th birthday and I still do not want to leave my Mommy's warm tummy yet. On the 15th I saw Dr. Melchione and he said that if I didn't come by the 20th, he was going to induce labor and make sure I got help coming cause I think he knows me and Mommy are scared to go through the child birth process. Mommy went to the hospital and they made her put on a girdle and then they hooked her up to a machine that measured my activity and she pushed a button every time I caused a contraction. I was asleep until the Nurse gave Mommy some Orange Juice and then I woke right up. Grammy and Daddy were there and they were giggling over the sound of my heartbeat. It made them so happy and excited. They thought I would come that night because I had caused Mommy to have so many contractions at the hospital, but I fooled them. I didn't come! Mommy is going to go back to the hospital tomorrow on the 19th for another one of those girdle-wearing, activity measuring appointments! I only have two more days and the doctor is going to start demanding that I come out! Oh Bother! I know everyone in my family is anxious for me to come, especially Mommy cause I am causing her lots of discomfort, but it feels so good inside here, although it is beginning to get a little too cramped for me. Dr. Melchione said I weighed 8 pounds now. I smiled when Dr. Melchione said he could tell Mommy and Daddy if I was a girl or a boy and they said they didn't want to know. They said they wanted it to be a surprise. I bet Grammy would have asked him to let her know if she had been there! She not only brags, she is nosy...but I can already tell I am going to have fun wrapping her around my little finger!

On the 19th I gave everyone a big scare because I sent Mommy to the hospital with false labor pains. Great Aunt Jan, 2nd Cousin Katie, Grammy, Daddy and even Great Auntie Sue all showed up for nothing! Boy was that fun! But I think it was my last chance to give them all a scare because tomorrow Dr. Melchione` is going to induce labor on Mommy.

Well, July 20, 1999 arrives and Mommy, Daddy, Grammy and Great Aunt Jan (who left my 2nd Cousin Katie in the waiting room) gathered together at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento on 53rd and F Street to have Dr. Melchione` induce labor on Mommy. Mommy ended up having only 1 hour and 40 minutes of pushing until I crowned and then I just popped out at 2:40 p.m. only catching my shoulder a bit cause I am a buffed little dude! Mommy and Daddy have it all on video, for me to see when I grow up. I am a very healthy, big boy!

My first doctor visit was with Dr. Lambert on July 26, 1999, a week after I was born. I had my first check-up and all was well. I had lost 2 pounds but my doctor said that was normal.

I saw Dr. Lamendola, my new doctor, on September 22, 1999. I had to get shots and another check-up. This was my first time getting shots! Daddy took me all by himself because Mommy knew I was going to get a shot and she did not want to see that! Mommy couldn't bear watching them hurt me and not being able to protect me. Course my Daddy is so brave that he had no problem taking me on his own! I really needed my Mommy when I got home because I was crying and very upset. Mommy hugs are the best!

Mommy and Daddy both took me to see Dr. Lamendola on November 20, 1999. I had a check-up and more shots. I still passed my check-up as a healthy baby boy and weighed-in at 18 pounds. Mommy was brave enough to come with Daddy this time but I was a very miserable little baby boy after those shots! Thank goodness for Hugs!

My next visit was on January 27, 2000 with Dr. Lamendola for a check-up and no shots thank goodness! My Doctor said I am really growing! He was proud of my growth and health and that made my Mommy and Daddy smile very big smiles of pride!

I went to see Dr. Lamendola on March 22, 2000. I had a check-up and shots and I even got a band-aid. My Grammy rocked me a lot when she got home from work because I was just so pitiful with my crying and I sounded so sad to her. She is easy to get Hugs from. I just put up with her singing cause I love it when she rocks me. But Mommy and Daddy were pooped after taking me for shots and a check-up today so Grammy stepped in and helped out like she always does.

On March 26, 2000, Jamal had to go to the emergency room for the first time. He had a high fever, couldn't eat or drink anything for 18 hours straight and was drooling and hanging his tongue out like a doggie. He was very fussy and nothing could console him. He cried a lot and wanted Mommy, then Daddy, then Grammy to hold him...he would be satisfied for about 2 minutes and then want to go to someone else. He would have included his Uncle Corey and Uncle Joshy in the game too, but they were not home. Anyway, it turns out that Jamal was not dehydrated, his temp was only 100 which is not too high for little ones (doc said 101 or 102 was high), but in my opinion is was pretty close to being high!! He was prescribed Advil for babies and sent home. He developed a skin rash all over for 2 days and then it started disappearing...so we wonder if maybe he was allergic to the Advil or if it was all part of the sore throat and fever virus he had. Cold baths were the only thing that helped him through the rash and it's itchiness. He was all better within a couple days. He is such a healthy boy! But spoiled rotten now! We love him to pieces anyway though!

Jamal has been a healthy boy ever since and he has not had to visit the emergency room again. He has lots of little bumps and scrapes but that is just because he is ALL BOY! He has grown into his weight and is average size for his age now. He is a healthy boy. He had his one year physical and his two year physical and all was well. Thank God!
