Grammy's First Grandbaby!

My First Grandchild

Hello, I am about to become a Grandmother for the very first time! I am 42 and will be 43 on September 3rd, so I feel as though I am a young Grandmother, but my kids kind of disagree with me! I have decided to put my Grandma's Brag Book online instead of carrying it in my purse so that more of my friends all over the world can view my pictures and more whenever they choose to rather than having this proud Grandmother shoving photos in their face at will! I hope you will look at my Friends page and decide to share your grandchild(ren) with the world too!

FAMILY HISTORY

My Mother's Mother died when I was only ten years old, but I can still remember a lot about her, She was a very special part of my life. We called her Grumpy and it wasn't because she was a grump! Just the opposite! I miss her still to this day. My father's Mother is still alive and living in Washington State, her name is Rena and she has great stories about us when we were little. I have lost both of my Great Grandmothers, Great Grandfathers, and my Mother and Father. The Maternal Grandparents of my first grandchild also live in Washington State, so most of my family roots are on the Northwestern Coastal region! My first grandchild's father, my son Tommy, was an only child until the age of 8 and then he was blessed with 2 brothers who are only 17 months apart. We come from a huge, close and loving family, so there will be lots of love to go around for our little newborn! We are expecting our little ray of sunshine to arrive sometime around the 11th of July! I sure hope he/she comes soon! No we do not know whether the baby is a girl or boy yet by choice, so it will be fun to learn that too! We have chosen a name for a girl and a boy already, but if you have any ideas that we may not have thought of, please e-mail me at iblorrie@aol.com and share them with us!

My Mother was very talented. She sang with her two sisters as a child and recorded a record. She loved to sing and play her guitar and we really enjoyed her doing that at family functions, especially when our Aunt Donna and Aunt She were there and they sang together like they had when they were younger. Mom also had a friend called Gail who would join her sometimes and we grew up hearing beautiful christian songs from the two of them. I have so many wonderful memories growing up. My brothers, Donny and Ray, have inherited mom's musical and singing talent. My sister Belinda sings beautifully too. My Mother could sew anything! She didn't need a pattern either and both of my sisters, Jan and Belinda can sew really well. I did not inherit that talent and I regret it! I tried, but I just never could do it well. Mom was very crafty and was always making the latest crafts for her friends and family, they cherish those gifts today in remembrance of her. My siblings and I all have her talents for making things, but some of us are better than others. I think my brother Jim got my mother's ability to put things together well and he is really good with wood. We all inherited mom's love and compassion for people. And her love of babies! Dad was a hard worker and held down 2 or 3 jobs at a time so that Mom never had to work. I think Jim and Belinda get that from Dad. I forgot to mention that I have 2 sisters and 3 brothers, but I am the oldest of the six of us! But that doesn't mean I had the first child or the first grandchild among my siblings. No, my brother Ray always beat me to that by about 5 months exactly! But being second is just as lucky since only the oldest are having grandkids now. I knew it would pay off to be the oldest one day!!

FAMILY BABY STORIES

One of my favorite stories of my son Tommy, the expectant father, while he was growing up is the time that he was standing on a chair and my Mother said, "Tommy, Get Down!!" and then my son started dancing! It was so funny! He loved to dance! We nicknamed him Boogie from that time on! My brother still calls him that to this day and has even spiced it up with a little Latin Lingo by calling him "Boogito!" Our family is big on nicknames!
Another favorite story of mine is the one about the same son at Christmas. He was two years old and he got a rocking horse with all the cowboy accessories. We proceeded to dress him up and put him on his horse. He was riding and jumping up and down and having a great time when my brother Donny decided to tease him and take his gun away. All of a sudden he was having a big fit screaming and crying. We took advantage of that little kodak moment and snapped his picture. That is the cutest picture of a little cowboy crying that you've ever seen!!! Kids are great and I am one who loves children, so I am really looking forward to sharing stories with you about my grandchild soon!

FAMILY HERITAGE

My son is part American Indian and his Great Great Great Great Grandmother has her picture up in the museum at Sutter's Fort as one of the Indians the Settlers admired most when settling in California during the Gold Rush Days. My son's school has an Indian Education Program that did a background check on his family history and when we learned of this, he told his father's relatives and even they did not know about it. These programs are very good and I think all schools should teach children about their heritage. Not just the Indians, but all cultures. They taught him so much and at the time it was the best lesson he learned in having self-pride and self-esteem. I urge you to find something on the internet that traces your family heritage and teach your children about where they come from too. It is amazing how interesting it all can be! Just SEARCH Geneology and that should get you started!

LIKES AND DISLIKES

Our family loves to have family get-togethers; camping, visiting country fairs and flea markets; watching children's plays and productions; movies; skating; bowling; little leaque basketball; baseball; football; picnics; swimming; car races; antiques and vintage cars; music; church; outings as a family; shopping; computers; nintendo; and lots more!
Our dislikes are prejudice; hatred; abuse of any kind, especially to the elderly, babies and children! We dislike violence and impatient, unsympathetic, critizing, selfish people. We dislike all that is bad and evil in the world. We dislike drugs, alcohol and guns abuse! We dislike corruption in our government. We just want the world to be the way God intended it to be!
