Sleeps all Night for the First Time
Jamal slept all night 7 days after he was born. He slept from 1:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m. He has not done it consistently, but for the most part he sleeps those hours most of the time. He has been adjusting to formula since Mommy had trouble keeping her milk in and it has made him colicky and constipated which makes a baby very cranky, so his good sleep pattern has varied a few nights until we found he really does well with Enfamil, low iron. He loves that stuff!
Smiled for the First Time
Jamal smiled for first time on July 21, 1999...may have been gas though....but he really started smiling during a visit to see his Grandma Sue and Grandpa Buck in Washington when he was about a month old.
Follows My Finger with Eyes
He did it! August 10, 1999, Jamal watched his Mommy walk back and forth, his eyes followed her every movement! He was 21 days old! Oh he is just so precious! Another thing he does that I did not even count on that is sooo cute, is when you talk to him and ask him a question like, "Why are you so upset Jamal? Do you hate this outfit Grammy put you in?"...he will, as if on cue, whine or squeak a noise that sounds as if he is saying, "yeah!" He just makes us laugh all the time because he seems to do that every time we talk to him! His Daddy threw his new shoes that his Auntie Foxy bought him on the floor after pulling them off of his feet yesterday and he yelped as soon as he heard them hit the floor as if to say, "Hey Daddy! Don't just toss my new kicks on the floor like that!!! My Auntie Foxy got those for me!!!" We just get so tickled with him!
Lifts Head Up by Himself
Jamal has been trying to lift his head up every since he was a week old. He hasn't done it yet, but I think he will soon...very soon! He seems to do everything really fast. He is a genius baby. Course Mommy, Daddy and Grammy are the ones who think so, but the professionals would agree with us! I am sure of it!!!

He can hold his head up by himself pretty good now at 2 1/2 months, and will probably be a pro by 3 months. We put him on his tummy and he holds his head up to look around him and keeps it up for a very long time. He is very strong!
Rolls Over for the First Time
Jamal has rolled over a couple of times, but we really didn't have to start worrying about laying him on the bed alone until November, 1999 when he was 4 months old.
Jamal Holds a Bottle for the First Time By Himself
Jamal held his bottle all by himself in September of 1999. He looks so cute too! But sometimes he just drops it and wants Mommy to hold it!
Sits Up On His Own
Still needs to be propped up at 3 months...kind of worrying us because he can stand up, crawl like the dickens, but still cannot sit up alone at the age of 8 1/2 months.
Cuts First Tooth
Jamal is drooling until his bib is soaked from 2 1/2 months on now...He cuts his first tooth at 4 months and by 8 months he has two in and two polking through and ready to drop.
Says First Word
He coos adorably and has done that since he was about 3 weeks old. He laughs out loud on November 4, 1999!
Takes First Step
Daddy helps him and he tries to take steps at 3 months. He is standing up and walking around things at 7 to 8 months.
Starts Walking
Jamal scootched then flopped as his way to crawl until he was about a year old and then he started walking all over the house! He never did crawl on his hands and knees like babies do. He looked like he was in a foxhole on the battlefield down on his belly and maneuvering around with his elbows and toes. What a trooper!
Eats Table Food
Jamal's first food was french fries from McDonald's and he loves them. He licks the salt off of them. He is a true family member...we all love salt! It is the Norwegion in our blood!
Takes His First Trip
Jamal flies to Washington to visit his Grandma and Grandpa in Puyallup when he is two months old. He makes many trips there on the airplane after that. He even lived there for a month when he turned 2 years old.
First Tooth
Jamal got his first tooth all the way in at 5 months old. He got a whole mouth full right away after the first one came in. Poor baby had a horrible time teething.
First Word
Jamal's first word was Dada...most babies say Mama first, but not Jamal. To hear more about Jamal's first words, Click Here
Baby's Growth Chart
Jamal's first weight gain was on his August 10th appointment when he gained 1/2 a pound. He is doing really good in the eating department.

Jamal is 15 pounds at 2 months old and gaining...he is turning into a little butterball and boy does he love to eat!
